Coping saws are designed to assist with the cutting of tight curves in timber. They are suitable for thicknesses up to 19mm.

The tool consists of a thin blade kept under tension by a C shaped frame. The handle provides the tension in the frame and allows the blade to be redirected depending on the cut required in the material. Caution should be exercised in the tensioning of the blade. When tightened sufficiently, the blade should should be firm and refrain from flexing. Over tightening can caused the blade to snap when too much cutting force is applied to the stroke.
