Steel tape measures are long steel tape with an arched profile. The arch allows the tape to remain rigid when extended out of the tape housing. The tape features a hook rivet onto one end and the other end attached to a coiled spring at the centre of the housing. Most contemporary tape measure housings now feature stop buttons or slides and a belt hook.
